Main features of mudslides in tectonised highly fissured clay shales

چکیده

Mudslides are widespread in the world, especially in areas occupied by highly-fissured plastic stiff clays. Despite their strong impact on structures, infrastructures and, in general, human activity, the knowledge concerning the causes and mechanisms of mudslides is still rather limited. The paper reports some results of long-term research on mudslides in tectonised highlyfissured plastic clay shales carried out through laboratory and in situ tests, monitoring and numerical analyses.

Softening and instability of natural slopes in highly fissured plastic clay shales

Softening is often considered to be the main cause of first-time slides in OC clay, but so far the mechanics of softening has not been satisfactorily explained. Bearing on laboratory data and field observations about landslides in tectonized highly plastic clay shales of Italian Apennines, the paper describes a process of soil weakening that could explain some failures of natural slopes.

Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Kuhkamar Shale in the Roum section (South of Qayen): Application for Provenance and Tectonic setting

The Kuhkamar shale with a thickness of 354 m is composed of siliciclastic rocks (sandstone and shale). Petrography studies of the sandstones in this area show two petrofacies including arkose and sub-arkose. These sandstones composed of sub rounded to moderately sorted; therefore, compositionaly to texturaly, they are immature to submature with mono and polycrystalline quartz and k-feldespar. I...

Preferred Orientations and Anisotropy in Shales: Callovo-oxfordian Shale (france) and Opalinus Clay (switzerland)

Anisotropy in clay-rich sedimentary rocks is receiving increasing attention. Seismic anisotropy is essential in the prospecting for petroleum deposits. Anisotropy of diffusion has become relevant for environmental contaminants, including nuclear waste. In both cases, the orientation of component minerals is a critical ingredient and, largely because of small grain size and poor crystallinity, t...

Advances in the Testing of the Hydro-mechanical Behaviour of Shales

The paper presents some of the advanced experimental techniques and apparatuses that have been developed by the authors for testing the hydromechanical behaviour of shales. A methodology established for the analysis of the water retention behaviour in non-isochoric conditions is introduced; the method allows for the determination of the main drying and wetting paths in addition to the volume ch...

بررسی‌های کانی‌شناسی، زمین‌شیمیایی و پیدایشی کانسار بوکسیت کارستی جاجرم، شمال شرق ایران

The Jajarm bauxite deposit is a part of the Irano-Hymalayan karst bauxite belt which is located about 175 km southwest of Bojnourd. This deposit has been developed as a stratiform horizon along the contact of Triassic dolomites and the Jurassic shales and sandstones. The basal contact zone of the bauxite horizon is mainly undulatory, and bauxite fills cavities in the footwall dolomite, whereas ...
